Bhumika Chawla: I find the word star really nice to hear though I find myself feeling normal and leading a normal life
Bhumika Chawla performance in Tere Naam catapulted her into fame. She was paired opposite Salman Khan in the film. However, the actor did not take advantage of the success or went on a signing spree.
“I did the films and projects that at that time I thought were good. I didn’t want to do too much at one point since I was busy working in the south as well. Back then, I had signed some projects which ultimately didn’t work out but landed up becoming hugely successful. There is many a slip between the cup and the lip. I firmly believe that what’s meant to be, shall be!” she says.
Of course she enjoyed all the attention she got as a superstar back then. “Who wouldn’t love the attention as an actor. I think it’s a step-by-step journey,” she continues, “I find the word star really nice to hear though I find myself feeling normal and leading a normal life.”
Bhumika shares that there is a lot of difference between how the film industry works now than how it was before. “In those days we worked with cameras and with magazines but now it’s digital. Magazines cost a lot of money and therefore one didn’t have the scope of going on and on with the same shot many times depending on the films budgets. The lights used then were different. Now the sets are larger than life at times. Technically there is a growth and advancement that has happened. But, ultimately the script should be strong and good, that’s what matters the most even today,” she says.
